GOPer: Cookie's Ignorance about Brother's Spot "Pretty Outrageous"
One of Krongard's chief defenders, Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT), found the timeline of the Krongards' relationship with Blackwater troubling. "To have your brother tell you he was not involved in Blackwater" and to only find out at the hearing that he's connected to the company "is a pretty outrageous thing," Shays said. Buzzy has done Cookie "tremendous damage" and suggested that Cookie should have taken further steps to ensure that he knew whether his brother was on the advisory board of a State Department contractor. Here's video:

Jones Day wrote on November 14, 2007 1:21 PM:Actually, Shays does a nice job here of deflecting blame off onto Krongard's brother, who just happens to not be there to defend himself (based on the post, didn't watch the video).
Anonymous wrote on November 14, 2007 1:28 PM:Jones Day, i watch the video. You are right. Shays IS critical-BUT, mostly to Krongards brother. So, disingenuously enough, he manages to SOUND like he's being tough on Krongard, but he's actually shifting it to his brother.
kjoe wrote on November 14, 2007 1:32 PM:It lasted only a few weeks, and was kind of overshadowed by the writers' strike, but the "Buzzie and Cookie in Blackwater" show, was one of the best of the season's new sitcoms.
don de drain wrote on November 14, 2007 1:41 PM:What relationship did Buzzy have with Blackwater before they asked him to sit on the advisory board? Was he a complete stranger? Or were there pre-existing relationships? We need to know a whole lot more about Buzzy and what he was doing before he became a member of the advisory board.
justadood wrote on November 14, 2007 1:46 PM:If the brothers talk like normal brothers talk about things, I can't help but suspect Cookie knew all along about Buzzy's connection to Blackwater.
Looking at the issue with a jaundiced eye, it would sort of explain why State has been so successful in whitewashing 'investigations' into Blackwater's activities, or keeping the sweepings under the rug, as it were.
It's a pity the DOJ is so thoroughly compromised they can't be trusted to prosecute law-breaking any more (if the lawbreaker is part of the Administration). There are enough career-making cases in the Bush administration to keep any truly honest AG happy for years.
Jones Day wrote on November 14, 2007 1:55 PM:Are they going to get to the real allegations about Krongard (e.g., stonewalling, covering-up, retailiating against whistleblowers, etc.), or just this stupid crap about his brother?
magster wrote on November 14, 2007 1:58 PM:Krongard's body language is hilarious. How much Scotch do you think this guy's going to drink tonight?
freepatriot wrote on November 14, 2007 2:06 PM:it's call FUCKING PERJURY dude
I don''t believe this lying fuck DIDN'T know
and if he really didn't know???
then it's called PERJURY AND MALFEASANCE
"I didn't know" doesn't exonerate this lying fuck of anything
"I Didn"t know" just means we charge this fucker with incompetence as well as criminal perjury
Anonymous wrote on November 14, 2007 2:08 PM:Did Rep. Darrell Issa just bribe The Honorable Howard J. Krongard, Inspector General, U.S. Department of State live at the hearing? Issa offered him a pass to the White House for a holiday party and a picture with Bush for his efforts before the Committee today.

incredulous wrote on November 14, 2007 2:28 PM:Cookie blames the "processor" he gave the e-mails to to surrender.
This muck is too mucky. I had to take a shower after I watched that. The pocket, lining, willful ignorance, no-nothingness, cronyism, all wrapped in "patriotism" with a "defending America" bow.
Scuse me, I have to go barf now.
SLOUCH wrote on November 14, 2007 3:08 PM:Shays sounds like he's talking to a middle schooler about his duties as a fucking hall monitor.
If you have to explain the basics of conflict of interest in the same tone of voice I use to talk to my 5 year old, they're not qualified to be the IG of a kindergarten lego table.
The saddest part? This horseshit has trickled down so far, everyone expects anyone in a position of leadership to lie to them. Govs lie, mayors lie, CEOs - CFOs - C-Whatever-Os lie, and nobody's upset about it anymore. Reporters don't call it, constituents don't punish it...
Hell, board members EXPECT their organization's underlings to do it with fucking STYLE.
My GM lies like a champ, knows we know it, and expects us to pretend we don't. And most are happy to swallow it with a smile (those of us who make noise become persona non grata amongst the EMPLOYEES for fucking up the whole fantasy.)
It's enough to make you hope for the worst sometimes.
moondancer wrote on November 14, 2007 4:19 PM:The guy is a good liar. I watched the entire thing and he had me buying it in the beginning, but the bullshit broke through. Too many lies to juggle. He sounded like Commander Queeg in the Caine Mutiny... they were disloyal see, they were all incompetent. And when I came in to straighten them out, why they hated me. I was good, they were bad.
SLOUCH=
His opening statement, Shays was squealing about a dem pile-on. By the afternoon his high pitched song was a little different.
unpoetaloco wrote on November 14, 2007 4:42 PM:Buzzy, Cookie, Scooter...where in the hell does these Republican men get these childish nicknames? Cub Scout camp?
Michael Jones wrote on November 14, 2007 4:58 PM:Every hearing on this administration has the same base line. "I didn't know" or "I can't remember". The absolute best case that you can argue is that this guy is too incompetent to do his job. But this is the big leagues. Shays should be ashamed of himself for defending this liar!!!
apeman wrote on November 14, 2007 5:36 PM:hey buzzy, cookie, shurb, scooter & turd blossom meet me at the clubhouse i found some dirty magazines.
So fourth grade.
Shoes4Industry wrote on November 14, 2007 5:37 PM:Why isn't this dope asked to resign IMMEDIATELY??!! What's worse, he KNOWS his bother is in bed with Blackwater or that he DOESNT'T know? Either way he's an idiot and a criminal.
shays shit wrote on November 14, 2007 6:23 PM:Shays is a useless piece of shit, and his constituency is a bunch of head-up-you-asses limousine moderates whose idea of serving your country is putting a yellow ribbon magnet on the back of the Lexus SUV.
markg8 wrote on November 14, 2007 7:07 PM:I love this exchange:
"Shays: Do you have more than one family member, er sister or brother, sibling?
Cookie: At this point in time I have one."
Now seeing as Cookie is well over 50 I seriously doubt Mom and Dad will be presenting him with a new baby brother or sister in the future. "At this point in time I have one" can only be construed to mean that soon he'll be an only child. LOL.
moyockian wrote on November 14, 2007 9:36 PM:Yes we should ask--and find out what Buzzy was doing for BW way back when. Could it be that his connection to Erik Prince was the thing that got BW its first black contract? More importantly: where did all that black money go? Follow the money...
