Paulose Admits She Faces A Special Counsel Investigation

Yesterday news broke that the Office of Special Counsel is investigating US attorney Rachel Paulose for personnel practices in her office, which was roiled with a major staff shake-up this spring when four top administrators stepped down from their leadership positions in protest. Paulose declined to comment in the original story, but acknowledged the investigation when the Minneapolis Star Tribune followed up:

Paulose declined to discuss the specifics of the investigation. "Since the matter is ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment at this time. I am confident the truth will be brought to light," she said.

"I am focused on doing the work of the people, which is what I was appointed to do."

Paulose is reportedly under investigation for such bad acts as retaliating against a lawyer who reported how she mishandled classified information and for using racial slurs against another employee.

The Star Tribune also asked former first assistant U.S. attorney John Marti about how he reported Paulose's security breach up the chain of command. Marti was one of the four managers who voluntarily demoted themselves in protest. The four still work for the US attorney's office, but not in senior positions.

Marti, who is still an assistant U.S. attorney, said because of his position he could not comment either. "I'd like to see the process work its way," he said. "And I am not going to have any comments beyond that."

The Office of Special Counsel is an investigative agency independent from the Department of Justice that seeks to uphold the merit system for federal employees and protect whistleblowers from reprisal.

That's from the Gonzo playbook isn't it. Time to break out the, I don't recall(s)."

She'll resign to "spend more time with her family", and find more suitable employment, like hostess at a Red Lobster.

Paulrose does her work for the people: The Republican Party, major corporations, major Republican donors, the religious right and the Republican elite.

Didn’t I read somewhere that she brags about being a virgin?

If it’s true, she is as crazy as a loon.

Does she live with her parents? Her FEC contributions list her parents' address as hers.

She was 'appointed' in a criminal conspiracy led by the corrupted administration and a Whitehouse liason who's only been saved from JAIL by her willingness to testify to that on going intentional, criminal conspiracy, Advised by her (Goodling's) lawyer to say no more than she has to ... the crux is she (Goodling) has already testified that she knew what she was doing was over the line and continued to do so until she was threatened with (OMG! ..." I have to leave my Washington appointment"). All of them deserve JAIL in my view and more than lucky for them mine is not the last word in Justice. Clean these skunks out wholesale!

She is like 32, obviously way too inexperienced for her position.

She was certainly not appointed to do the work of the people. The people would have demanded a qualified appointee. She was appointed to do the dirty work of the Bush/Cheney administration.

How dare this country allow George Bush to announce himself President and how dare this country allow this stooge to continue to proclaim herself a Federal District Attorney for Minnesota. Shame!

You didnt think you had to bring your own honor or what?

With friends like your's who needs enemies? (here's a token for the clue bus: They don't serve honor on tap where they come from ... something about the heat and all ... check it out)

She's 34 (last I read; not sure when her birthday is). I wouldn't be surprised that she lives with her parents into her mid-thirties, given both that she's of south-asian ethnic backround, probably VERY conservative at that (extrapolating social views from political views) and unmarried. I'm sure arranging a marriage for HER is a cute trick, since that's probably the only kind her family will consider and she's probably pretty damn full of herself to boot!

Her appointment is very, very fishy (apparently neither of MN's senators will now own up to supporting it) and her 'confirmation' was part of an enmass approval of all nominations that was done on a voice vote at literally the last minutes of the Repug congress' term after they were voted out of power in the 2006 election, so the Senate never considered her nomination at either the committee level or held a 'real' vote to confirm her.

Several different versions of her resume have surfaced, contradicting just which law firm she worked for before she went to DOJ; she only worked at DOJ for 6 weeks before taking over as USA in MN; and her job title at DOJ was one that nobody has held since the Clinton era and nobody has held since! (can you say "fabricated"? I knew you could!)

Oh, and not the least, although she did graduate from a real law school (Yale), her experience is so thin she listed on her resume her experience as a Sunday School teacher. This woman was NO WHERE near qualifed to be a USA.

She (her exhalted highness Paulose) can, as a final act (before she's straightjacketed) pardon Craig for his toe tapping moronic men's bathroom antics, while she sees to the judiacation and prosecution (stoning) of a welfare mother who tried to use an expired pizza coupon so she could feed her boyfriend and her kids .... isn't life strange ... a turn of the page

Think Craig is facing state law charges. Paulose can't help him there.

Talk about insight into the mechanics of a loon. Being a virgin is not crazy, thinking one is crazy for being one is.

Barbara -

Paulose could "cure" him, you know, make him "not gay".

Only a loon brags about it on an elevator. First, it's nothing to brag about at her age. Second, it's nuts to talk about it outside the therapist's office, during those thrice weekly sessions.

I just hope things work out for her, eventually. When she gets some maybe she’ll lighten up.

Amy Klobuchar wasn't in the Senate yet when Paulose was appointed, and her predecessor, Mark Dayton, was a DFLer who was not consulted. And Norm was defending her coronation and has spoken well of her. Otherwise, your statement is kinda accurate.

Um, can we leave her virginity/sexual attractiveness out of this? Isn't it enough that she is completely incompetent to fulfill her responsibilities in office? Sheesh.

Bill wrote on September 19, 2007 5:28 PM:

I say that she should have only the most professional words written about her current travails; with the exact same codification Larry David gave to his aunt-in-law in one of the Curb Your Enthusiasm television episodes.

If she hadn’t announced her sexual dysfunction, the world wouldn’t know about it. The sex drive is a human’s strongest non-survival instinct. It takes a, shall we say, special, personality to resist this powerful God given force, and all that energy has to go somewhere. In Ms. Paulose's example, the deprivation has not led her toward righteousness, but to evil.

As for her physical appearance, it’s fair game to attack any weakness of these goons. On the positive side, at least she doesn't look like yet another Rove clone.
