Pig Roast Protesters Move On To Salmon Bake

Despite a boisterous crowd oinking and yelling outside his annual pig roast fundraiser last week, Rep. Don Young (R-AK) is holding a public event this afternoon in Anchorage. The same anti-Young crowd is expected to attend.

The state's only congressman will serve up baked salmon to anyone interested in stopping by, a move that made one local political strategist cringe, according to an AP story.

The cringing is pretty reasonable, seeing that John Farleigh, the Alaska native who organized the last Young protest, is rounding up the troops for another assembly at the salmon bake. Farleigh left me a message last night saying he has already spoken with local media and has high hopes that the added pre-protest publicity will work in his favor.

If you're planning to snap photos at the event this afternoon, please send some our way!

I'll be there with camera and video in hand. Young will blow his top at a protester if one gets in his face. Guaranteed. I'll send whatever I get. DZaki - alaskareport.com

Wouldn't it make for a nice picture to have a small plane circling overhead towing a trailing banner that reads like, "Throw the Bastards Out."

I hope the protest goes well.

Given the sparse population of Alaska, I'm sure it's quite difficult to get people out to protests, but I admire your tenacity and attempts to confront him.

As a non-Alaskan, I appreciate your attempt to turn the screws on a corrupt politician who has gone along with everything that is wrong in US politics.

i'll return the favor next year when I fire Gordon Smith (R-OR) for, among other things, being a pretend 'maverick' Republican, Jack Abramoff crony, and generally a fence-sitting thumb-twiddling doormat for Bush.

they were there. a guy in a pig mask waved at cars on their way by. lots of honks. the 10pm news showed a very short little scuffle between some folks. it was a hot (for alaska) day--79 degrees. lots of homeless in line for free salmon.

Lot of homeless. Lots of smoking maybe mothers-to-be and those that needed more exercise than free food
but especially the Republicant hacks! lots of hacks waiving Don signs. hacks are bad everywhere but in Alaska they are the biggest bunch of losers. Members Only literally and figuratively
