Lott: Get Out of D.C. While You Still Can
There's irresponsibility. There's demagoguery. And then there's Trent Lott.
It turns out the Capitol Police have bolstered security around the U.S. Capitol after a recent al-Qaeda communique threatened an attack on Washington. Lott, according to Roll Call (sub.req.), responded with characteristic gravitas. In light of the heightened threat, Congress can either amend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act or all of us can run screaming into the inferno.
Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott (R-Miss.) ominously advised Thursday that Congress needed to pass changes to terrorist surveillance laws before leaving for the August recess and warned that otherwise “the disaster could be on our doorstep.”
Further demonstrating his counterterrorism sagacity, when asked if people should leave Washington, D.C., during the month of August, Lott replied that "I think it would be good to leave town in August, and it would probably be good to stay out until September the 12th." By contrast, a former Capitol Hill chief had the temerity to note that, according to U.S. intelligence analysis he'd been privvy to, "Americans tend to be much more oriented toward anniversaries and the jihadists seem to be less so. I've seen over the years where we concentrate on dates and the analysts say, 'Don’t get wrapped up in dates because our terrorist jihadist enemies bide their time.'"

Isn't Congress usually on vacation in August? Hasn't Al Qaida historically been long term planners? Do they really have such bad intelligence or have they changed tactics? Or could this just be a ploy to get the August vacation back along with an extra two weeks for the mental anguish?

Do I believe this one? I have no idea. How on Earth can I tell? These people lie all the time about this for purely political purposes (it's documented!); it's clear they don't *really* care about the country's safety. How do we know when to believe, and when to not?

It just is unimaginably bizarre that Congress should be discussing changes to FISA the week after Gonzales' highly suspect testimony about FISA related matters, especially when the problem occured, as I've read in news reports "a few months ago". Yeah, so where's the news coverage on this 'story'? There is absolutely NOT ONE story on this topic anywhere in any news source. Period. If this was so real a story wouldn't you think some other 'source' would be mentioning that according to whatever source it was, Senator Trent Lott yelled 'fire' (like the question above) in a crowded house of government because the Capitol itself was enough of a specific threat that more police had to be brought in to make stand for security? Well, no one source has. So this is either a completely bogus story and should be retracted immediately to protect this site's repuation; or ........ so which is it?

Lott is now trying to activate and enlist Jerry Springer Show guest mentality to the republican cause?
code word: animal. Even animals have rational reasons. What is Lott's excuse?

He as one of the bush crime family has done terrible harm to America. He stood up and spoke for a man who committed treason. So Old TM go back to Mississippi and live out your days watching the surf roll in.
We are afraid alright, afraid Lott will stay in Washington and vote with the bush crime family on everything evil they do.
