The Daily Muck

Tony Sanchez, a longtime public official from Guam, has resigned. Sanchez is facing multiple counts of conspiracy, theft and public misconduct for his relationship with Jack Abramoff. (Pacific Daily News)

A 2006 spill at a uranium production factory closed the plant for seven months, but the general public never complained. That’s because the Nuclear Regulatory Commission report was labeled “Official Use Only”, which means that even though the information is not a state secret, it cannot be shown to the public. Even worse, only one of the five NRT commissioners made an effort to inform Congress of the disaster. (NY Times)

Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) has earmarked $100 million to help build an engine for the Pentagon’s infamous Joint Strike Fighter, even though the Pentagon and two independent boards have declared the engine redundant. (Associated Press)

A little Canadian muck: up to 40 radioactive devices monitored by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission have been lost in the past five years. Just another reason to be wary of our neighbors from the North. (Globe and Mail)

A nationwide shortage of firefighters comes at the wrong time, as this summer promises prolonged fire danger levels. (Associated Press)

How many "radioactive devices" have been "lost" in the US in the same time span?
What "radioactive devices" are we talking about?

Spills happen at Homer's Plant everytime I watch the Simpsons so it can't be that bad, can it?

Another Harrison!
I lost a radium dial watch in Toronto a couple of years ago.
It is listed as a lost "radioactive device"!
The US has no better friend or ally than your "neighbours from the North"!

Put this in the "just curious" column.

You think Curt Weldon was having an affair with blonde, attractive, fortyish real estate agent-lobbyist-defense contractor executive, Cecilia Grimes?

I think it is a very big coincidence that Rep. C. W. "Bill" Young's daughter-in-law, Cynthia Young, became lobbying partners with Cecelia Grimes after Grimes rented a house to her.

To top off the coincidence, both Grimes and Young contributed to the campaign of Rep. Robert Andrews (D-NJ) on September 10, 2004 as executives of Galaxy Scientific.

Why didn't the press ever report that Grimes and Young worked for a defense contractor while they were lobbyists who lobbied Weldon and Young exclusively? Seems relevant to me.

Should a defense contractor have rules about employees being lobbyists?

i'm curious: if this is "just another reason" to be wary of your neighbours to the north, what are the other reasons? try ditching the hyperbole.
