Judge Denies Libby Request to Delay Jail Time

From the AP:

A federal judge said Thursday he will not delay a 2 1/2-year prison sentence for I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, a ruling that could send the former White House aide to prison within weeks.

U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton's decision will send Libby's attorneys rushing to an appeals court to block the sentence and could force President Bush to consider calls from Libby's supporters to pardon the former aide.

I am extremely doubtful that the blindfold stays on Lady Justice very long, at least in this matter.

As to those missing emails, the Lady already let the cat out of the bag while no one was looking.

That whirring sound you hear is the wingnuts spinning.

So.. how long before Bush commutes Libby's sentence?

Judge Walton said he'd been getting threats since the original sentence, and is now saving them for the record in case someone decides to follow through on those threats.

Reckon how thick that file will be by the end of the week?

Gotta love his comment re: the amicus brief

From Firedoglake:

Walton: With all due respect, these are intelligent people, but I would not accept this brief from a first year law student. I believe this was put out to put pressure on this court in the public sphere to rule as you wish.

Then his sentence will be commuted pending a pardon in 1/09.

I’ve said all along, and I still believe it, Paris Hilton will spend more time in jail than Scooter. There is no way someone who knows as much as he will be punished. None.

I'm actually less concerned that Libby have the unpleasant experience of being incarcerated as I am that the people who insist he did nothing wrong finally shut their yaps and acknowlege that a crime was committed.

I understand there have been threats against the court; and legal counsel has apparently attempted to influence the court inappropriately.

Is this true; is it being referred to the DC Bar; can the Court independently direct prosecutors to bring people in re contempt; or does this matter have to be heard by a separate court outside DC when it involves the alleged misconduct before the Libby sentencing court?

It's amazing Libby gets to remain free while the date of his incarceration is negotiated. When USA Stephen Biskupic wanted Georgia Thompson in prison, she went right away, conveniently for election day. If Libby was a poor man, he'd be in jail already.

I can't explain how sad I am that the baliff did not lead Irwin off in cuffs as an immediate remand.

It woulda been so cool to see Irwin wail for his mommy just like BJ Hilton did . . .

Pardon Attorney Roger C. Adams

The Office of the Pardon Attorney, in consultation with the Attorney General or his designee, assists the President in the exercise of executive clemency as authorized under Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution. Under the Constitution, the President's clemency power extends only to federal criminal offenses. All requests for executive clemency for federal offenses are directed to the Pardon Attorney for investigation and review. The Pardon Attorney prepares the Department's recommendation to the President for final disposition of each application. Executive clemency may take several forms, including pardon, commutation of sentence, remission of fine or restitution, and reprieve.

So, Libby is going to jail and has been given some time to put his affairs in order before going to the Big House.

In the meantime, he might prepare himself for life on the inside, which is why I suggest he think about getting some TATTOOS...so he'll fit in.

Suggestions for a Libby jail-house tattoo?

How about one honoring the person most responsible for his getting sent up, the person Libby has been protecting by perjuring himself and lying to federal prosecutors?

A tattoo on Libby's chest, maybe, of a heart with the words "I LOVE DICK_cheney" or just a basic tattoo stating "I"D DO ANYTHING FOR DICK_cheney," including going to jail with these tattoos on oneself.

Aw, c'mon, Scooter. You'll need tattoos where you're going, just to identify to which gang you belong. In your case, the DICK_cheney gang.

Serves Libby right-if he wants to be a gopher for weasels, he should end up in a goper hole slammer-like the jerk he is-and so, by rights, should Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle, Rice. All except Powell, since he atoned by getting the hell away from these pigs. In the June 11 Time mag. issue, another jackass weasel-a columnist named Norman Pearlstine- says some real smart things (not). First he asks (in the tried and true bogus "fair and balanced sounding questioning tone" of what passes for mass media "journalisim" in this controlled country) "was it all worth it ?" re. the Libby investigation (implying it wasn't). Of course it was you lying pig: Bush and his gang of criminals took the country into a pre-planned war based on flat-out concocted lies, that he knew were lies. Wilson dares to differ from their lies, so they attack him and his wife. This is m.o. exactly worthy of Hitler and his gang. Then Pearlswine says that prosecutor "Fitzgerald's refusal to release affidavits he filed to justify compelling (reporters) Cooper & Miller to tesitify remains 'troubling' "- oh yeah ? "troubling" to who, jackass !?-you and all the other mass media con-men (excuse me "journalists") that's who ! Miller spouted, in articles, the party line about going to war from day one-saying things like the evidence against Saddam Hussein was clear-cut, unequivocal, compelling-yada,yada,yada-she was flat out lying-and -get this: she knew it. Mass media "journalism" is just a Hitler-like extension of whatever lies the "powers that be" (that own the mass media) want to foist on the world at any given time-period! -and THAT'S what's truly "troubling" Pearlpigsty! Then Pearlsofwisdomstine next says: "Fitzgerald's investigation has set a precedent that will encourage other prosecutors to seek testimony from the press, forcing other journalists to betry their sources". What part of this don't you understand, Pearlstooge: you and Miller and many other "columnists / opinionmakers" aren't journalists-you're purposefully planted stooges, liars, schmoozers and con-men. The "sources" you protect are exactly the same-on the same "team" -so you're both part of a big , staged "disinformation campaign". Pearlswill then says that "congress should pass a shield law to protect journalists and their sources". Wrong, you weasel / swine hybrid !-congress should pass a journaisitic anti-trust law to expose the real ownership & control of our supposed "free mass media", then they should force real diversity and freedom in journalism-and allow reporters to go straight to congress (as in the whistlesblower model) when they are fired or blocked from reporting the REAL truth by their editors (it just takes one weasel editor to totally block investigations or information from being published-and we all konw who controls the few editors of the mass media. Judith Miller was / is a trained liar & plant of the "powers that be": period-she deserved all she got and more, same for Libby. What we have is: journalists who are not really journalists protecting "sources" who are employed by the exact same "intertests" that employ "people" like Miller- in other words: the whole thing is total con-and you, Pearlswill want congress to pass a law to help you perpetuate the con. If you want to play around Pearlsquirrel , go play on the freeway, twerp!

Now that "the current occupant of The White House" has commuted Scooter Libby's sentence (thus enabling the CONVICTED CRIMINAL to serve NO time AT ALL behind bars... just to have pay a large fine he can easily afford), may we please get serious about taking our Democracy back?
