Sen. Stevens Denies Search of Home and Office

What did the FBI search in the tiny Alaska town of Girdwood last summer? The mystery continues.
A spokesman for Sen. Ted Stevens’ (R-AK) told me today it wasn’t his boss’ home or office -- two favored guesses. Stevens has been tightlipped in the FBI’s broad probe into oil company Veco Corp.’s dealings with Alaska state and federal lawmakers. But today his office opened up slightly. Stevens’ spokesman Aaron Saunders denied a raid of Stevens' home or office and sent me a copy of this local television story with the following portions underlined:
The FBI will not comment on whether Sen. Stevens is being investigated. But when the agency served search warrants on lawmaker's office last August, one search warrant was served in Girdwood. Agents said it wasn't at the senator's home or office, but they won't say where.
There’s not much else in Girdwood. Any guesses?

I couldn't find a record of Stevens owning property in Girdwood under his name. Anyone know if Stevens holds title under his own name?

Any idea where his mistress lives?

Possibly the local Registrar of Deeds office or equivelant agency? They would be the ones to issue building/remodeling permits. Those records would show which company was doing the work, who paid for the permit, etc.

Storage facility? Secret love shack? Vacation home? Mistress's condo?

Anonymous wrote on May 31, 2007 5:36 PM:

I vote for a storage facility. Or a family-member's house.

Anchorage Recorder's office list the property in both his name and that of his wife. Finding permit stuff is a different horse . . .

Steven Olson wrote on May 31, 2007 5:47 PM:

My guesses are:

a. A storage facility of some kind where he keeps his papers. The REAL ones.

b. An unofficial 'office.' Since Stevens is reputed to be a vindictive bastard, you just know he had one. It's a place where he can sit back with his cronies and feel comfortable muttering dire threats of vengeance against anyone who crosses him without fear of being bugged; just like a mafia don.

c. The offices of an accountant or contractor who has done work for Stevens in the past.

He's so ugly, he would have to pay for a mistress. I'm crossing that one off. I go with an accountant or other professional who has records of some sort of transactions. Mighty small town for the home office of a bank.

everybody pays for a mistress, it is inherent in the job title

look for an old friend that he did a major favor for.

I just read in the comments at Firedoglake that Lisa Murkowski has a home in Girdwood.

Could that fact be of interest?

Hmmm... How good is their Internet? Congress brings internet, internet brings internet business... You can set up a bank of computers anywhere. If it is in Girdwood, Alaska, the rent is what? $0.15/square foot a year? Makes a pretty good business plan... Does the search warrent go to the computer location?

code word = snake... looking for this snake to meet up with a ferret.

Lots of Alaska "names" own homes/condos in Girdwood. It's a short drive from Anchorage; it's a ski town but without ski town prices. It has a fab restaurant (owner is co-owner of the Steven's race horse) and a fancy hotel. It's different up here - you never know who you might encounter at the grocery store or local gym.

alambernakis wrote on May 31, 2007 7:40 PM:

The original Anchorage Daily News story quotes Bob Persons, a restaurant owner in Girdwood and a partner with Stevens in a racehorse-owning business (along with former VECO head Bill Allen) as having monitored the remodeling project for Stevens. I would guess the search was of Persons' home or business.

Here's what the Anchorage city assessor says about Stevens' Girdwood property:

presumably some of the girdwoodians know. maybe the journamalists should ask around.

alambernakis wrote on May 31, 2007 8:05 PM:

PS: Mrs. P., probably the reason that you couldn't find anything for Stevens in Girdwood is that Girdwood is part of the Municipality of Anchorage, and so the MOA maintains the property records for Girdwood.

I like the 2nd comment: THE MISTRESSES HOUSE. (Is the mistress Lisa Murkowski?)

Or THE TOWN BROTHEL.

Or THE PORK-STORE (like The Sopranos).

Or Senator Stevens's drug-dealer's house. (You know he was high when he decided, for himself, that THE INTERNET was like a drive-thru bank-teller... "IT'S A SERIES OF TUBES!"

His "private" office, at the constuction co.

Herb's comment above remind's me of the contest the local radio station had a year or two ago when it came out in the ADN that Ted was claiming to be clinically depressed.

The contest was for the best idea on how to get Uncle Ted happy again.

The winner: a fist full of Prozac, a bottle of Jack Daniels to wash them down with, and a happy ending massage down on Spenard.

Spenard is the local street walkers place. Not quite as amusing as the old Times Square but hey...it's Alaska.

alambernakis wrote on June 1, 2007 3:13 AM:

At a fundraiser in Fairbanks on Wednesday, Ted Stevens said he feels "like a warrior."
Lisa Murkowski said Ted has "northern vigor."
The reader comments show the nature of Ted's relationship with his constituents.
The newspaper's absolute failure to mention a single word about Ted's recent troubles gives a clue as to why, to date, he has got away with just about everything.

most likely Double Musky Restaurant owner house or his actual restaurant. maybe VECO owned house. check executives of VECO and find if they own property. VECO executives were awash in bonuses and so were their subcontractors for oil service jobs. Any number of Old Boy network could have been involved. Local Media will not research this story! They have gotten away with this shit for so long that no one talks shit about TED.

Christ, his kid took $750,000 from Special Olympics! Stevens, Murkowskis, and Youngs family treat this state like an ATM machine

It took the FBI to clean it up not the local media or the local welfare class.

His campaign started railing against OUTSIDERS yesterday. Same old shit from the same dirty deals old boy network. Keep everyone out of their gravy train in the coldest banana republic on earth!

However, I would think they would be public records.
