Gonzales Can't Remember Giving Firing Order
Under questioning from Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT) Gonzales said that he couldn’t remember when he made the decision to go through with the firing plan. He recalls making the decision, he says, but can’t recall when. Just another day in the life of an attorney general, apparently.

He's playing for the cameras too - the whole stubborn "that's my story (sic) and I'm sticking to it" schtick with a touch of aggression. And you know, when you have so many stories to choose from, you can go for a very long time.
Security code: Meat, as in dead, perhaps?

Many are questioning why Bush didn't fire him a week ago to spare the administration this embarrassment. When you have the true believers saying such things it's obvious Gonzales looks like a complete idiot....and a liar to boot. Why has Bush so stubbornly held onto him? Why has risked expending so much "political capital" over this?

As in I like watching Bushies squirm.
Is The Performance of Seedy Gonzales Really The Product of Two Weeks of 'Preparation' ?
If this is what two weeks of preparation in the DOJ, then this guy is dumber than a Bush. Why is it so hard for him to tell the truth? He is covering up for Rove just fine. Having the Unimpeached Bush's Personal Lawyer in the Attorney General's office is a mistake because he can claim 'client privilage' on everything.
We'll see what happens when they come back from lunch.

The venom they are throwing at Gonzales is as bad as anything you would see on kos. Gonzales has Bush supporting him- and that's about it. I don't even know if his kid can support him after watching this performance.

Wow. Thanks for the report. I have to say, I really am surprised.
You're a braver soul than I to watch over there. I can't even stand to hear Sessions and his "questioning."

http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/002865.php has a great starting point on this.
Arlen Specter's Outhouse Overseer inserted language into the bill. He was a hold-over from when Oral Hatch was chairman.
He is now the US Attorney for Utah in Salt Lake City.

There also seems to be something about that Nov 27 meeting that needs to be hammered on. I'm very curious about whether there was a meeting or discussions before that meeting between Sampson and Gonzalez regarding the firings and how and why they would be conducted.
Definitely, the more you listen to the testimony, what occurred in Nov around that meetings seems to gain more and more in importance.
Maybe Goodling was involved in discussions at that time?

What's the follow up on that one? Did they edge Bogden out because they figured he was gay--not married, 50 years old? Did they bring up the failure to prosecute porn thing there because it was a convenient codeword? I really don't care whether he was gay or not...but I would be interested to know if there was a conspiracy against gays at the DOJ.
es wrote on April 19, 2007 2:35 PM:Re: the question of why Bush keeps hanging on to Gonzo. Some possible reasons:
1. Gonzo's been with Bush a long time and knows where lots of Bush's skeletons are buried. Bush needs to keep Gonzo close to him to keep him under control.
picaresque wrote on April 19, 2007 11:41 PM:2. Bush would have a hard time finding another person a) as clueless and Gonzo and b) as willing as Gonzo is to do lots of dirty work.
3. This may be the biggie: Bush does not want to have to have his nominee confirmed by a Democratic-controlled Senate.
That is officially the funniest moment in this whole obscene farce. His whole defense was, I made the decision, if I could do it again, I would, but I don't remember when or how it happened. Anyway, Kyle did most of it.
MO Blue wrote on April 23, 2007 4:55 PM:I loved the way that Bush choose his words.
Bush said Gonzales “gave a very candid assessment” and “answered every answer he could possibly answer, honestly answer, in a way that increased my confidence in his ability to do his job.”
Some senators didn’t like his explanation, but he answered as honestly as he could.
Suspicious people could just interpret those sentences to mean those questions that he could answer without revealing the truth and implementing himself and others in the politicalization of the DOJ, he answered honestly. Those questions that couldn't answered honestly he didn't answer or used the I don't remember escape clause to hide the truth.

Thanks, Fredo, you have reached depths only KKKarl, Darth and 43 could appreciate.
