Bush cant fire AbuG because only G knows where the Constitution is buried. There'd be some bean spilling as a result. Although, a medal would make things right. Getting more interestinger all the time.

Mrs Panstreppon wrote on March 20, 2007 1:39 PM:

Chairman Conyers should ask Fielding for the name of the ninth fired USA. The ninth one was supposed to resign publicly on March 9, according to one of the documents from the dump.

Note comment next to the anonymous fired USA - "When USA announces, resignation, the Administration will seek recommendations of potential candidates from the White House-designated Republican lead."

We'd really have something to talk about if the anonymous fired USA is Patrick Fitzgerald.

Anonymous fired USA's term expired on 11/2/05. Presumably whoever it is was appointed on 11/2/01.
Any way of backing into who the anonymous fired US is?

On a tangential note, does anyone know if there's a George N Berg.... or George M Berg...., where the last name is 8 or 9 letters (and the first name may not be George!)? This relates to that heavily redacted DAG 942, AKA 1-11, page 38, with bleedthrough to 39.

Mrs. P: From the 11-2-01 NYT -- are we getting closer?
November 2, 2001
Metro Briefing | New York: Manhattan: Prosecutor Named To Terror Unit
By BENJAMIN WEISER (NYT) (COMPILED BY ANTHONY RAMIREZ)
A veteran prosecutor in the United States attorney's office in Manhattan has been appointed co-chief of the office's unit specializing in terrorism cases. The prosecutor, Kenneth M. Karas, replaces Patrick J. Fitzgerald, who was confirmed last week as United States attorney in Chicago. David N. Kelley continues as the other co-chief of the unit. Mr. Karas, 37, joined the prosecutor's office in 1992 and has been assisting in the investigation of the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington. Earlier this year, he helped try four men charged with conspiring with Osama bin Laden in the 1998 bombings of two American embassies. Benjamin Weiser (NYT)

Nice work, Laurie! If Patrick Fitzgerald got fired, all hell will break loose.

The only other possibility I came up with is Paul Perez, USA-Middle District FL.

From an 11/01/01 Orlando Sentinel story:

"In October, Jacksonville lawyer Paul Perez was nominated for the job, clearing the way for Byron's overseas assignment."

The DOJ should be investigating Rep. Bill C.W. Young in connection with the Curt Weldon case. Young's district is covered by Perez but given the way things go in the Bush administration , who knows.

I can't imagine they'd have the balls to follow through with firing Fitz at this point.

But every time I've thought that in the past, this administration has proven me wrong.

Hastert to Can Patrick Fitzgerald?
By Josh Marshall | bio
Late this evening I got emails from a few readers who told me about a news story on Chicago's Channel 9, WGN-TV which pointed out that Patrick Fitzgerald's term as US Attorney in Chicago is coming up in October and that pressure is building to deny him a reappointment...

Mrs Panstreppon wrote on March 20, 2007 2:53 PM:

Hold on. There appears to be another anonymous fired USA who was supposed to resign on 3/9. His or her term also ended 11/05.

One on p.2:

One on p.6:

The Gonzales Eight apparently is now the Gonzales Ten. But #9 and #10 didn't announce their resignations on March 9. LOL - I can't imagine why.

I did a quick search of senate confirmations on THOMAS. There were three sets of USA approvals around November 2, 2001: October 12, October 23 and November 6. November 2 date may be date USA took oath, especially if he/she was confirmed on October 23.

Those with more time can do more searching:
http://thomas.loc.gov/home/nomis.html

I searched the word "attorney" for the 107th Congress, civilian nominations considered by the Judiciary Committee and confirmed by the Senate.

Laurie wrote on March 20, 2007 3:03 PM:

Only other that pops out for that date is Strom Thurmond Jr. (cannot make this up) but I dont have any good guesses on what's been going down in SC:
-----------------------------------------------
November 2, 2001 (NYT)
National Briefing | Washington: Panel Approves Thurmond Nomination
The nomination of Strom Thurmond Jr., son of Senator Strom Thurmond, as United States attorney for South Carolina was one of 11 sent by the Judiciary Committee to the full Senate. The younger Mr. Thurmond, 28, is an assistant state prosecutor and a 1998 University of South Carolina law school graduate. He has been endorsed by Republican and Democratic leaders alike.

Mrs Panstreppon wrote on March 20, 2007 3:32 PM:

Laurie, I don't know when Strom Thurmond Jr. left office but Reginald Lloyd was appointed USA-SC 2/06.

I am assuming the USA terms run from the date the USA is sworn in. If I am right, the terms of the 11 nominees in the NYT article did not begin until after 11/02/01.

Look at the handwritten notations for anonymous fired USA on p. 2. "Border" is crossed off as a reason for dismissal so presumably this anonymous fired USA's district is on the border.

Senator Feinstein said that this group, meaning the first eight USAs fired, was the first to go. Meanwhile, the WH hasn't even owned up as to how many USAs were fired on December 7, 2006.

What was AG AG planning to do about #9 and #10 and what did he tell them to do about resigning on March 9?

505 wrote on March 20, 2007 3:51 PM:

Now that I've actually read the documents, "#9" and "#10" are one and the same and his/her name falls alphabetically between "Charlton" and "Iglesias." USAs confirmed in this timeframe who also fit the bill (and I have no knowledge of their current status) are Collins, Connelly, Dugas, Fitzgerald, Gean, Greenlee, Gruender and Harris.

My guess is Fitzgerald.

Mrs Panstreppon wrote on March 20, 2007 3:57 PM:

False alarm. I think anonymous fired USA is Margaret Chiara who resigned on 3/17.

Sorry to get everyone stirred up over nothing.

505 wrote on March 20, 2007 4:05 PM:

Oops, yes, missed that one. I agree it's Chiara.
