Reyes: We're Going To "Dive Deeper" Into Iran Intel
After holding a closed-door hearing on Iran yesterday, House intelligence committee chairman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX) suggested that -- surprise, surprise -- the Bush administration is misrepresenting the available intelligence on Iran:
I regard Iran as a threat to U.S. interests. By its actions, Iran clearly wants a nuclear weapon. Iran clearly supports international terrorism. And Iran clearly wants to undermine U.S. objectives in Iraq. That said, we need to be very careful in our rhetoric. We don't want to get into a situation where hyped intelligence leads us into another invasion and another conflict....
So, this topic requires more oversight. We are going to dive deeper into the intelligence. We are going to work to strengthen our collection and analysis in this area.
And we are going to insist that policymakers and military officials accurately convey intelligence to the American people. The days of cherry-picking and hyping intelligence are over, and now we must stay focused on the facts.

This is comical to read in light of Newsweek's investigation of the Qods affair.
It's a sad day when we liberals have to cheer such a liar because he's so much more reasonable than the liars who preside in the White House.
Democrats should be lobbying to repeal ILSA (Iraq-Libya Sanctions Act). American interests determined more than a decade ago that we should do business with Iran and facilitate their moderation. The Israeli lobby overruled them.

Upps - what actions point to Iran wanting nuclear weapons? The IAEA has not found any. So what is the proof there?

He can talk of more and better oversight and ending the cherry-picking, but he already swims in a ideological fishbowl that insures that said cherry-picking will continue apace, albeit from a slightly more "liberal" DLC/Neocon/Likudnik perspective.

I thought that the word 'facts' was excised from the governmental lexicon six years ago. Does mean that someday in the future someone somewhere in a governmental position might actually stop pulling 'reality' outta their posterior padded region?
