Feith, Edelman Hang "Inappropriate" Intel on Wolfowitz

One of the more interesting assertions in both Douglas Feith's and Eric Edelman's reactions to the IG report on the Office of Special Plans is that the office's activity can't be inappropriate because it was authorized by Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz, then the secretary and deputy secretary of defense. As Feith puts it:

It is bizarre for the Inspector General to disapprove of policy officials' doing work that they were directed to do by the Secretary or Deputy Secretary of Defense, given that those tasks were lawful and authorized and the Inspector General found nothing at all wrong with the Secretary and Deputy Secretary directing that the work be done.

Edelman's response portrays Wolfowitz, now the president of the World Bank, as the prime mover behind the whole affair:

The Deputy Secretary of Defense ("Deputy" or "DSD") directed his Special Assistant in his front office and two staff members in OUSD(P) to take a fresh, critical look at Intelligence Community ("IC") reporting on contacts between Iraq and al-Qaida.

We've got a request for comment out to Wolfowitz's office about this.

I know we got Libby, lets hope we can only continue these trials with Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, Elliot Abrams, Dov Zakheim, David Wurmser, Donald Rumsfeld and many others, to expose the real crime of the century. These men intentionally mislead a paranoid White House that Iraq, not al Qaeda, was the main threat to the US. This group pushed our country to war, not to protect the American people from terrorism, but to be an active participant in a dream for a greater Israel. When this war in Iraq is done, over a million Iraqis will have perished, thousands of Americans will be dead with tens of thousands more wounded, lets pray that justice will be served to these traitors.

Wow. Nixon's Ghost meets the Unitary Executive: "If the Deputy Secretary of Defense orders it, it's not against the law."

Uncle Sam,

I can not say what any of the folk listed in your post dream about . . . I am not sure that sharks dream.

I am sure that it does not have crap to do with Israel. This is red herring and you have grabbed it and jumped down their rabbit hole.

"Uncle Sam", just what law is it you imagine was broken here?

Let me see....In the 1990s, Douglas Feith and Richard Perle were advisors to Likud
Party in Israel, and pushed a plan for Israel and the United States to jointly attack Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein.
Once GW Bush got elected, these two got hired in the Bush Administration and were given top security clearance, and proceeded to push a plan for the United States to invade Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein. And it was they who provided the 'intelligence' used to justify the Iraq War ?
Do I have that right ? Is this true ? Or, is this all some crazy anti-semitic conspiracy theory ?

I have to agree with Uncle Sam. Supporters of Israel are partly responsible for this mess. Say about 10%. 20% responsibility is the oil industry. 35% is Bush/Cheney. 35% the American public that did not ask the critical questions and jumped on the war bandwagon.
So yes, Israel's supporters are responsible, but only partly.
