Satan Hatin' General Gets Bounced

Evangelical conservative William Boykin is set to be bounced from his Pentagon gig as a senior intelligence official, Newsweek reports.

Boykin became known for his violent Christian rhetoric, like when he asserted America’s enemy is “a spiritual enemy ... called Satan” who could only be defeated “if we come against them in the name of Jesus.”

His detractors have noted that his position should have required him to oversee the conduct of military interrogators, including those who have been found to abuse their subjects.

In 2004, Boykin was ordered to investigate claims of prisoner abuse by "Task Force 6-26," a military intelligence unit trying to track and capture one of Iraq's most notorious terrorists, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, according to a 2006 New York Times report.

Boykin said he found no pattern of misconduct. It was later revealed that the group (motto: "If you don't make them bleed, they can't prosecute for it") had taken over a Saddam-era torture chamber and used it to "beat prisoners with rifle butts, yell. . . and spit in their faces," according to the New York Times.

This guy is getting bounced? He should be Court martialed for dereliction of duty. Oh forgot, only lower ranks get held to account for their actions. My bad.

RA wrote on January 10, 2007 2:25 PM:

The weird slogan "If you don't make them bleed, they can't prosecute for it." Is, oddly enough, completely inline with the General's so called "christian" military ethic. Consider during medieaval times, that priests and bishops went into battle with the knights. Forbidden to 'draw blood' they could not carry a sword. So they carried clubs and maces instead. (See the Bayeaux Tapestry, where Bishop Odo is depicted wielding a mace).

No explanation is given for why bashing someones brains out is somehow not 'drawing blood'... but then who expects reason from religious fanatics?

An enemy called... Satan. What, is his mom, "The Church Lady"?

I'd say good riddance, but for all I know he's being put in charge of the military wing of the Spanish Inquisition.

Jesus save us from your followers!

What does "bounced" mean?

Gex wrote on January 10, 2007 2:54 PM:

Ben,

I means a lucrative job in the private sector, possibly followed by a presidential medal.

Johann wrote on January 10, 2007 2:59 PM:

I hope "Bounced" doesn't mean to the Joint Chiefs.

Followed closely by a multi-million dollar salary at a security company for his assistance in securing contracts overseas.

I'm sorry, but the Justice Department won't tell you what 'bounced' means. That would help the terrorists.

If that doesn't say all you need to know about America's modern Xtian warriors nothing does.

No doubt he'll command a six figure salary in the manufactured outrage industries. Another Christian, not behaving very much like Christ.

this will match the "bounce" on the head he no doubt suffered some while back.

there's nothing especially outrageous or atypical about this jesus freak's rhetoric and behavior, outside of the fact that he was apparently born without any type of internal censor. whereas most of the upper ranks of our government or military in control right now probably thinks mostly along the lines he thinks, they at least have the decency and self-interest to know talking like that in public (ie. to the sane portion of our country) is gonna do nothing but make you like like the complete asshole that you so clearly are.

Now, if only we could bounce the leadership (sp) of the Air Force Academy. They are as bad, if not worse, than General ragin' Preacher.

The idea that this xtian types can brain wash and rinse the minds of our top cadets and future officers is a incredibly scary thought.

It is good to see this maniac go. This man created trouble for the US long term, by shreading any possible statement that our war efforts was not anti-Muslim. His many statements in front of brain-dead religious groups here in the US further damaged our military reputation. And you have to suspect that any agnostic or zen follower or muslim or even a Gnostic would be treated worse by this guy than another military officer who prostated himself in prayer, speaking in tongues or agreed with his warped religious ideas.

America's Hero. yeah, right.

Seeing posts like this reminds me of something that struck me over the past few months. Americans are sick and tired of being told what to do by the ultra-religious reichtists.
About time. Perhaps rational thought will return to its prime position.

dale jones wrote on January 10, 2007 4:54 PM:

Rational thought? yeah that is the answer.

just so me a society that was or is successful with belief in some higher power or god.

since rational thought requires evidence, i'll wait all day for an answer to that.

secular, liberal rationalists have no kids and just die off. i guess that is rational.

sagesource wrote on January 10, 2007 5:47 PM:

hey dale,

try europe. church attendance in the toilet, belief in godz at an all time low, doing quite well, thank you.

or closer to home, try canada. the percentage of people in canada who attend church is almost exactly the same as the percentage who think the da vinci code is non-fiction. well below 20%, in other words. and again, economy, society, doing quite well, thank you.

that's your future, dale. doesn't matter what you think about it. religion is the sand-castle and reality is the sea slowly encroaching.

General Boykin is a true American hero. Aside from whatever you think of his religious views, he was commander of Delta Force from 1992-1995 and was the commanding officer of Delta at the Battle of Mogadishu. Two of his men were awarded the Medal of Honor for their service during that battle. He should be thanked for a life time of service, not ridiculed by people who know nothing about what he's done.

Just for you Joseph,

Thank you General Boykin for your past service and your efforts to protect the US. However it has come to our attention through your very own words that you place your extremist christianity above the Constitution and the safety of this country. We have no wish to persecute your for what your believe or to make you change your beliefs. Since the world is not fair and owes you nothing, certainly not a continued career, simply because of what you have done in the past, it seems that it is time for you to leave. Please submit your resignation, process your retirement paperwork, pack your duffel and move your fundie nutjob butt to Florida where you can play shuffle board and proselytize the heathen elderly. God Bless, and Good bye.

Joseph: A soldier should stick to soldiering, instead of letting his faith-based personal views drive his approach to duty, honor, and country.

This guy will not become a contractor, he will become a candidate for president, and if successful, use the Bush initiated violations of our Constitution to become our own Hitler.

Waterboarding, also, was a technique used during the Spanish inquisition in part because it permitted the priests to torture without violating the prohibition against drawing blood.

RA, Henry, and ISG -- thank you very much for the lessons. Two of them I really shoulda known already, and did not.
This is why I Ioves me some internets -- better than my college education, all things considered.

Joseph: I hear you, and I think we all do honor General Boykin (I thought he was a Lt. Gen?) for his service to his country, and thus to all of us -- as we do all who serve. But you do have to consider his service in its entirety, even as we respect and appreciate all that he has accomplished, and the risks he took on in so doing.
You can't seriously argue that saying, in public and for attribution and while in uniform, "I knew my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol," about his Islamist adversary in Mogadishu was terribly helpful to our cause when we're desperately trying to convince the Muslims of Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, the occupied territories, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the whole friggin rest of the world that we're NOT going after their whole religion, indeed their whole civilization, but just the "violent extremists." Can you?
